What is Marble Etching:
Marble is a beautiful stone that is often well worth the extra maintenance that it requires. The calcium carbonate in the marble reacts to acids and etches. This appears as a dull spot on the surface. Etching is particularly visible on marble countertops when the surface has been polished. One option is to hone the surface of the stone countertop, or to give it a battle like appearance. This sheen closely matches the etching making any damage less visible. Here is an example of the same table with a honed and polished surface.
